The newly inaugurated Bauchi State Road Traffic Agency (BAROTA) has expressed concern with the presence of over 300 illegal motor-parks across the state.
The Director General of the agency Air Commodore Tijjani Baba Gamawa made the remark on Monday when he featured on Eagle Radio Live Radio audience participatory programme, Ana Tare.
Air Commodore Gamawa who observed with concern the way people randomly board vehicles on road sides, said the agency will work with other relevant government agencies to bring an end to the anomaly.
According to him, the agency’s operation will commence in three local government areas of Bauchi, Katagum and Darazo and will later be expanded to other parts of the state.
He warned drivers against over-speeding, rough driving and making phone calls while driving, saying that the agency will not spare defaulters.
Air Commodore Tijjani Gamawa who disclosed that a new mobile court has been established to try traffic rules offenders, called on motorists and other road users to observe traffic rules at all times.
Turning to weekly village markets, the BAROTA DG called on traders in such markets to always remain orderly by displaying their wares in appropriate places
Air Commodore Gamawa who warned horse riders and reckless motorcyclists to desist from the act and joint hands with the agency to sanitize the state, further called on commercial vehicle owners to refrain from loading heavy goods such as animals in their vehicles which he described as inhuman.
