Tourba, a leading agri-tech and nature-based solutions provider, has extended its innovative carbon farming initiative to Bauchi State as part of its national strategy to scale regenerative agriculture across Nigeria.

The initiative, which promotes sustainable farming and enables smallholder farmers to benefit from the global carbon market, has already covered over 15,000 hectares in Niger and Nasarawa states.

At a stakeholder consultation held at Hazibal Hotel, Bauchi on Tuesday, Tourba’s Country Manager, Opeoluwa Filani, explained that the goals of the programme is boosting food production, increasing farmers’ incomes, and mitigating climate change through carbon sequestration.

He explained that carbon farming not only helps the environment but also improves soil health, increases yields, and offers farmers additional income through carbon credit sales.

In Bauchi, the pilot phase will span 5,000 hectares across five LGAs Bauchi, Katagum, Warji, Bogoro, and Ganjuwa.

Dr. Ilyasu Gital, Commissioner for Agriculture, urged farmers to embrace the initiative, noting its potential to enhance agricultural resilience and profitability.

He pledged the state government’s support and promised to mobilize farmers to take full advantage of the programme.

The stakeholder meeting was attended by local farmers, community leaders, and government officials, all expressing optimism about the programme’s transformative impact.
