The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists Bauchi state chapter, in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Bauchi field office, has organized a one-day advocacy visit to the Tirwun community on menstrual health hygiene for adolescent girls in the area.

The visit led by the chairperson of the Association, Mrs. Rashida Yusuf, called on parents and caregivers to put their hands on desks to protect their wards from diseases and also to help them with their hygiene.

The Chairperson said that the essence of organizing the gathering is to sensitize young girls from age 13 to 18 years on how to manage menstruation hygiene.

She, therefore, called on them to make sure they extend what they have learned to their fellow girls who are not able to attend the gathering.

In his part, Alhaji Ahmed Muhammad who is the district head of Tirwun, commended the leadership of the Association for Organizing such an educative event for his community, saying that such will go a long way in addressing the menstrual crisis among adolescent girls.

The health worker from the community, Murjanatu Muhammad, talked extensively about menstrual hygiene and also how to sewn local pads that will be used for over one month, and how to make them clean without disposing of them.

Some of the girls who participated in the program thanked the Association for their efforts and concerns; they said despite the challenges they’re facing in paying for pads, such an event will help them produce their own pads and walk out to schools with confidence.
